To be held in Trondheim, Norway, on May 14, 2011, the World Beard and Moustache Championships is a big deal. A BIG DEAL. Apparently, the United States is the ‘world’s new facial hair super power, having captured twelve world championship titles out of eighteen categories plus overall at the World Beard and Moustache Championships in Anchorage, Alaska in 2009′. So if you have a good handlebar, if you can connect the dots, then the next major event in the ’sport of bearding will be the Beard Team USA Nationals in Bend, Oregon on June 5, 2010, where $5000 in cash prizes will go to best beards and moustaches in the USA’. Elmar stole the show at the WBMC 2005 when his tribute to the host city Berlin -- his beard styled to depict the world famous Brandenburg Gate -- earned him the world championship title in the full beard freestyle category.

In 2007 he repeated his championship performance, this time with his beard in the form of London's Tower Bridge.

Gunnar Rosenquist from Gothenburg, Sweden, burst onto the international beard scene at the 2006 European Championships in Amberg, Germany, where he took third in the full beard natural category, traditionally the most competitive. At the 2007 worlds in Brighton, England 2007, where ABBA won the Eurovision SongContest in 1984, he succeeded in taking the silver medal performance in the same category. Gunnar is a peacelover and also a Master of Science in Computer Engineering. He lives in the woods near Gothenburg with his woman and his daughter.

Jack Passion can rightfully claim to be the current world beard champion, having taken first place in the full beard natural category, the most competitive category of all, at the World Beard and Moustache Championships both in Brighton, England, in 2007 and in Anchorage, Alaska in 2009.

After his first win, Passion wrote The Facial Hair Handbook. The book is a fun and informative read for any man looking for tips on how to grow a beard, shape facial hair styles, stop your beard from itching, or even get a close shave.

At 25, Jack is younger than a lot of the beards in his category!
